Island of Hydra

December already, huh? These evenings after work in the office are best spent indoors in warm and cosy place like mine, relaxing music in the speakers, comfort food on the table while working on a stimulating project or with a good book in hand... I am sorting out thousands of photos from previous years and deleting another thousand. This is a tedious task but needs to be done one day finally. So many memories locked in my laptop.

And while going through all these images I found these snapshots of the Greek island - Hydra, from a trip two years ago. I spent two days on Hydra before heading to a yoga retreat on the main land of Greece. This little island is a perfect get-away for a short 4-days stay; it is ideally located only one hour by boat from Athens. There are no cars on the island and the locals use donkeys as transportation  between villages. Water is crystal blue, plenty of rocks to jump off into the refreshing and energizing sea, a good number of walks around and small, lovely restaurants overlooking bays with fishermen boats. I reckon the best time to visit is in May or September outside the busier summer months.

Getting there: from Geneva there are direct flights to Athens by easyjet (this route will be operated as from the 01.04.2014) and Swiss air, a flight takes approx 3 hours. A taxi ride from the Athens airport to the Pireaus port (around 1 hour) and a boat to Hydra island (around 1.5 hours). More details here.
