A hike we did another day during our weekend in Zermatt was an easy trail to Findeln village that sits just 600 meters above Zermatt. Findeln used to be a tiny village of only a few typical Valais hamlets; most of them today are the restaurants open in winter and summer seasons. Our walk passed through beautiful forest and pastures with Matterhorn views. Always so grateful to spot some animals in freedom, in their natural habitat; this time there were a few wild goats and marmots warming in the sun after hibernation winter period. A sweet surprise was that Chalet Ried restaurant was open, heavenly quiet and serving super tasty food. As always a walk in a forest has such a positive, calming impact on my mind and spirit.
Researchers found that people who often walk in a forest showed:
✔Lower concentrations of salivary cortisol, known as the stress hormone
✔Lower blood pressure and heart rate
✔Reduction of adrenaline and noradrenalin, also stress-related hormones
✔Increase in immunity-boosting cell activity, and the numbers of cells and anti-cancer proteins known to combat cancer
