back from Sumatra

I'm back from Sumatra and will be posting coming weeks the articles about each place I stayed in. It was a leisure travel just as I like it, with plenty of ocean, early mornings, rice fields, jungle and gentle people. Return to Switzerland was fine, still scratching those mosquito bites, I am actually enjoying the colder weather so that I can stay at home in warmth and comfort, taking care of the blog and other homely things.

Intienerary: flight from Kuala Lumpur to Medan (capital of Sumatra) and then to Banda Aceh – > long stay in coasal villages of Lho-nga and Lampu’uk  (near Banda Aceh) -> internal flight from Banda Aceh to Medan, bus to Lake Toba -> Samosir Island on Lake Toba -> Tangkahan (Leuser National Park)-> Bukit Lawang  -> back to Medan for return flight to Kuala Lumpur

  2. Hi Thomas, glad to hear that you enjoyed these images, happy to see you here. I stayed in Sumatra almost 1 month, but I was taking my time, I don't like to rush and I was just chilling out in places. Sumatra is a wonderful island, the North is still very quiet. Lucky you - 6 months...If you need any other info let me know.

  3. Hi Magdalena,

Yeah, I can't stop looking at them :)
Well, I'm planning to do the same. Just take my time and chill, take loads of pictures, surf and explore the island. Is it necessary to book all the place in advance (like joe's bungalows)? How long did you stay at each place? Are there things you had to skip because you didn't had the time for it? Thx a lot for your help! :)

  4. Hi Thomas, if you plan to stay at Joe's during surfing season its better to book, just to be sure, there are a few bungalows, i think they all have ocean views. I stayed in at Judi's place (Aceh Kitecamp), I went to JOe's many tomes for grilled fish and pizza. Mind you it is Muslim part of sumatra so only a few places sell beer (joe's does). I really wanted to go to Palau Weh for diving, you need to take a boat from Banda Aceh there (apparently it is so much worth to go there) but the weather broke and storm came for a few days so at the end there was no point to go there and I headed south to the Samosir Island. Get a scooter when you get there to wonder around, at Joe's they will tell you where to rent it. cheers.
