One of the main reasons to make it all the way to the north of Sumatra was to try some kitesurfing in a spot that is still very little known. I stayed in a small coastal village Lho-nga, forty minutes by car from the Banda Aceh international airport. Most of the guest houses in Lho-nga cater to surfers but lately a Frenchman Regis Lacouture opened a kite surfing school and you can read all the information about it on his website Aceh-kitecamp. I stayed at the camp for quite a good amount of time to get the feeling of the place. It is located five minutes’ walk to the beach and a short walk to the village. The rooms are very clean and comfortable with private bathrooms; there is a common dining area and a beautiful garden. A local lovely lady Ita cooked delicious food, always very fresh and tasty. You can rent scooters during your stay and that will give you a great freedom to visit surrounding villages and places. The village and camp are very tranquil but note that it is a Muslim part of Sumatra and you might wake up to very early morning calls from the mosque ( earplugs recommended). From October to March the camp caters to surfers and from May till end of September to kite surfers. Very soon I will tell you more about the surrounding beaches and show you many more photos from the area.
