In Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia

It's been over a week since I am in New Caledonia and have already seen many stunning landscapes that I will share very soon. I have became aware of what cultural leap I have done coming from Australia to the past French colony; a particular mixture between the Malenasian (subregion of Oceania) tradition and the French charm and culture. New Caledonia is situated 1,200 km east of Australia (map here), the island stretches over 450 km. I wandered through the streets of Noumea, the country's multi-ethnic and casual capital surrounded by many bays and islands.

A view from the Quen-Toro Park of Noumea's surrounding small islands. It is rainy season and the islands' hill tops are covered with thick clouds.
Main town square "Place de Cocotiers ". The Kanak people are indigenous to New Caledonia.

So tropical green everywhere

Lovely to see a fish and a turtle on the money banknotes

The French game of "Pétanque" at Anse Vata.

The town Beach of Anse Vata

I have so many photos from New Caledonia on my hard drive which I haven't had time to show you yet. We have made a trip to the north and I truthfully enjoyed seeing the different parts of the island. The mixture of cultures and customs is really surprising sometime; but more about this and about the road trip very soon.
