This small volcanic island of Stromboli, one of the eight Aeolion islands, is so beautiful and was the most amazing place we visited during our ten days trip. It rises from the Tyrrhenian sea as a perfectly shaped cone. The island is utterly serene and colorful of bougainvillea flowers, lemon fruits, white washed houses and deep blue sea. But what makes is so very special and unique is the constantly active Stromboli volcano which silhouette is visible from many points of the island. Time moves slowly here and volcanic explosions seen as a smoke coming out of the summit every twenty minutes are just a part of a normal day. We did an evening trek to the volcano's crater and I will tell and show more about this amazing experience in the next article.
What I also loved was the deep, blue color of sea water, goregously transparent and clean. Thanks to the volcanic lava and rocks that the sea bottom is made of, the water color is so "deep" and different from what I have seen so far. I enjoyed every moment of swimming around lava rocks and seeing how the volcano's slope extends and plunges into the depth of the sea (for another 1,000 meters). Would love to return here one day.
