on Easter

Easter  in Poland like anywhere else hasn’t avoided the commercial aspect of another holiday and seeing one more chocolate chicken or rabbit makes me to run away. But there is still another  side of it; watching my mother cooking wonderful, traditional polish food, celebrating family and experiencing the waking up of natural world after a long, weary winter. I hoped for spring in gardens; I was welcomed by snow blizzard. But thankfully after a few days some patches of blooming flowers appeared and the sun came out.

Typical easter cake made with yeast and lemon

Naturally - coloring easter eggs by boiling them in onion skins

"Makowiec" (left)  is another traditional cake with poppy seeds

A perfect duck with apple stuffing

Liked this lady's red lipstick contrasting with snow

Easter baskets waiting for blessings, all of them containing eggs as symbol of life
