Itinerary: Champex-Lac (1,466 m) -> chairlift to La Breya (2,200 m) -> Cabane de Trient (3,170 m)
Last weekend we spent on the glacier Orny and Trient Plateau (which are part of the Tour of Mont Blanc). Was much needed to find myself at the high altitude after almost two months of a break from the mountains. We drove to Champex-Lac, our starting point, where we took the chair lift to La Breya. The walk to the foot of the glacier was moderate (around 2 h). While taking time to put the crampons on, get roped and prepared allowed me to enjoy and breathe slower in this splendid place. Walking on the immense land of ice is just grand; is experiencing the mountains where its heart is, that’s how I feel it. We climbed to the Trient Plateau where we spoted our home for the night, arriving at the Cabane du Trient just before dinner and to catch the sunset. Glorious views, good friends, good food (wonderfully presented by the way which is quite rare at these heights) and some wine to finish the day. What more can you ask for?
