Itinerary: train to Murten -> cycling around the lake Murten -> arrival to Payern (to take the train back) around 40 km on a bike
I am not big about challenging cycling trips (except easy city biking) but this was a lovely bike trip around Murten lake (Fribourg region). We went there in the middle of the summer when the sunflowers were in full, bright color, but I recon this trip must be very scenic in autumn months, wearing the orange and yellow fall tones. We took a train to Murten (you can rent bikes at the Murten train station; we brought our won bikes on the train). Murten is a typical picturesque German-speaking medieval village; it is a place to get that “right” coffee before you get on your bike (as a morning coffee worshiper I can state they do serve a better coffee that the Swiss-French). The trip took us trough the countryside of green fields with hay barns, vineyards, and some gentle slopes. We took a leisure lunch in a garden with the views at Owl Farm (recommended to book in advance). They serve a local wine and fresh, local produce. We could ride back to Murten but decided to get that extra miles and we headed to Payerne train station, nice bike route all the way.
